When I reflect on my journey as an artist, I realize that my work is an attempt to create a sanctuary – a quirky, fun, and beautiful haven. Each piece I create is imbued with personal meaning and memories. The aluminum insect screen, a recurring element in my work, symbolizes the childhood summers I spent with my grandmother, passing through her squeaky screen door. This simple yet profound memory forms the foundation of my art.
My creative process is a fusion of colors, experiences, shapes, and textures, all coming together to transform my inspirations into tangible forms. This spring, my husband Garry and I embarked on an extended adventure in Venice during the wisteria season. The sweetly scented air and the enchanting atmosphere of Venice left an indelible mark on me. The art, architecture, and the omnipresent water reflecting light and illuminating everything with a golden glow were truly mesmerizing.
One day, we stumbled upon a charming little shop that sold exquisite pigments. The allure of these pigments was so strong that I found myself returning to the shop to gather more. This experience ignited a spark within me, inspiring me to return to Pittsburgh with a renewed sense of purpose. Armed with these pigments, I created a new sanctuary – a little grotto here in Pittsburgh.
Through my art, I invite you to step into this sanctuary, to experience the fusion of memories, inspirations, and the beauty of the world as I see it. Welcome to my haven.
