Scott Hunter's Nonie Series has become a convergence of the autobiographical storylines of artist and muse. Just as the artist as a young man appears in a few faded snapshots of Nonie’s photo diaries, each painting invites the viewer to engage in a form of temporal travel and share in our collective memory of time and place.
A second look at these mundane but meaningful moments leads to thoughts of kinship and how its social roles, responsibilities and obligations can conflict with who we are inside – moving the artist to ask, "I wonder how I would know her differently if I knew her now?"
The light of the past is here, seen through several lenses, weaving through themes of aging, identity and tradition with a dose of humor. All while celebrating the simple pleasure of looking.
