Isaac Bower is a visual artist with a BFA in sculpture from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and an MFA in sculpture from West Virginia University. He was born in 1968 into a family of creatives and scholars, including a painter/illustrator grandfather, a gallery-owner grandmother, a poet/professor father, and an accomplished writer/professor mother.
Thematically, much of Isaac's artwork has explored the boundary between the natural and artificial world. Stylistically, his work has often employed the use of patterning and modular approaches. Isaac's undergraduate education was rooted in ceramics, but he soon began to work with wood, found elements and later various mold-making and casting techniques.
His work has often stayed near to the line between art and craft, influenced in part by various commission projects involving furniture, lighting, and custom architectural features. Isaac has been based in Pittsburgh, PA since 2004, when he established his studio in the Polish Hill section of the city.
