JULY 15 - SEPTEMBER 2, 2023
Artists Stephanie Armbruster and Kevin Mack document their personal explorations of self and the world around us – balancing figure and ground, blurring the lines between landscape and gestural abstraction.
In her new series, Armbruster delves into the realm of the self and the interior landscape of her own experience. Each work is the product of a period of profound introspection, touching upon universal themes of resilience and adaptation, isolation and connection. Departing from her traditional medium of encaustic, these expansive new works in stark black and white on paper intentionally shun color to emphasize form and contrast, conveying a sense of depth through interplay between light and dark.
Through layers of play and precision, Mack creates vibrant paintings to be seen as both portal and mirror. He dissects and rebuilds moments to uncover the intricacies which cement experience as memory. Whether chasing the sublime in studio or off the grid, loose planning and an openness to chaos are of the utmost importance.
